TCDC News, Events and Opinion
Hello Members and Friends of TCDC,
Knock, Knock
It’s petitioning season and over 90 TCDC members and volunteers are out knocking on doors of democrats across the city of Ithaca and in every town in the county. You responding to their knock and signing the petitions they are carrying ensures that democratic candidates are on the ballot in the fall. This is a critical first step in keeping our Democracy vibrant and strong. Together, we can help make this happen.
The Tompkins County Democratic Committee provided workshops to prepare petitioners and now they are out going door to door working to meet the required number of signatures. If quotas are not met, the candidate cannot run for office. This year they are carrying petitions for Josh Riley/Incumbent House of Representatives NY 19; Dr. Anna Kelles/Incumbent for 125th NYS Assembly; Lea Webb Incumbent NYS Senate 52nd District; Derek Osborne Incumbent TC Sheriff; Rachel Graham, TC Clerk; Incumbent Representatives Renate Ferro and Dan Lamb NYS Democratic Committee and 6th Judicial District Delegates and Alternates.
The petitioning process is one of the most basic building blocks of our democracy. Over the course of the petitioning period, neighbors will gather signatures from neighbors. Signing a petition for a candidate is one of the easiest and important ways for the public to be an active participant in their democracy.
On behalf of all democrats in the county here’s a heartfelt “thank you” to all of the petitioners. Their energy, time, and dedication is deeply appreciated.
Onward,
Linda Hoffmann, Chair
Tompkins County Democratic Committee
