Hello Friends,
On Tuesday, we celebrated historic victories across the nation! From small towns to big cities, Democrats delivered a strong message to the Trump administration that Americans reject the Republican party's failed leadership and cruel agenda.
I was thrilled to see resounding victories from Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherril in their races for Governor of Virginia and New Jersey. Zohran Mamdani inspired thousands of new voters to take part in the democratic process in his successful race to become NYC Mayor. Democrats also won important local elections and ballot propositions all over the country! Congratulations to our neighbors in Onondaga County, where Democrats flipped the County Legislature for the first time in 50 years!
Here in Tompkins County, our Democrats won big! Looking to the strong campaign in Ulysses to reelect Supervisor Olson, Ward 5 came out to vote for Hannah Shvets, and volunteers from around the county came together to help our Lansing Dems to defend against a write-in campaign. Both Legislative District 14/Town of Ithaca, Christy Bianconi, and Legislative District 10/Town of Dryden, Dan Wakeman, faced opponents and won.
The 2025 Election resulted in significant communication outreach to voter mailboxes from towns, wards, candidates, and the county committee with post cards. Yes, an aggregation of information as to when and where to vote, why local elections matter, your local candidates, and yet information didn’t stop there—more followed with what it takes to be a public servant on Town Boards, City of Ithaca Alderperson, and the County Legislature. I was the recipient of 20 postcards. Special shout out of appreciation to each and every individual who designed, drafted content, and coordinated these mailings.
Thank you to the candidates for stepping up to serve your community, to the volunteers who help get out the vote, and to the Board of Elections and the poll workers who make sure our elections run safely and successfully! The engagement of each of us and beyond in Tompkins County in “Getting Out the Vote” is the very corner stone of democracy. We can’t do this work without you.
The most important office, and the one which all of us can and should fill, is that of private citizen.
Louis Brandeis, (1856 – 1941), Supreme Court Justice
Let’s celebrate, recharge, and then get back to work!
With gratitude,
Linda Hoffmann, Chair
Tompkins County Democratic Committee
