PRESS RELEASE

Message from the Chair

On Thursday, May 28 the TCDC joined more than 80 community groups and organizations to march in the 49th Annual Ithaca Festival Parade. Not an easy task lining up with floats, vehicles, banners, bands, and an amazing array of costumes coupled with walkers getting ready to greet the community of attendees. No doubt there was excitement in the air with people whistling, laughter abounding, shout out of names erupting along the route. Canine friends were side by side with the walkers going back and forth greeting parade attendees.

The Tompkins County Democratic Committee “TCDC” traversed the route carrying a banner listing the Democratic Candidates on the state and local levels. Dan Lamb, Deputy Supervisor for Town of Dryden, and Rachel Graham, Tompkins County Clerk Candidate, carried the banner.

We were also delighted to collaborate with the Democracy Defender’s Red Line Project, an interactive art project that asks people to articulate what issues motivate them to participate in the political process.

Congressman Josh Riley greeted the throngs of parade-goers along both sides of the parade route. No pause, a continuing flow of reaching out, building the momentum.

Members of TCDC and other democrats from the community followed the banner carrying small American flags, with a steadfast shout-out of support for “democracy.”

TCDC had the privilege of a truck in a spectacular color of red driven by Mike Lane, former TC Legislator for the Town of Dryden. Featured were side banners for the upcoming 250th Anniversary of America and door panel posters promoting our state and local candidates.

From start to finish the TCDC parade participation brought our community together in this shared journey to unite us and to vote in 2026.

Deep gratitude to Stacey Dimas for her outstanding coordination of details in support of this effort and each and every volunteer.

Best always,
Linda
