Chair's Message for August 2026
District Staffs: They Put the Serve in Service
Congressman Riley, Senator Lea Webb, and Assemblymember Kelles spend only a portion of their time in Washington or Albany. Acutely attentive to the needs of the people they represent, they spend untold hours crisscrossing their districts to listen to our opinions and to learn about our needs.
The dedicated folks who staff their district offices play a critical role in the excellent jobs our representatives do. These public servants devote themselves to solving problems for district residents. They deserve our deep gratitude for the time and devotion they spend addressing our concerns and issues.
Assemblymember Kelles and Senator Webb’s staffs focus on state issues. Both have offices in Ithaca. Constituents can ask for advice about utility bills and State agencies or for help applying for a grant. You also might encounter staff members at a local public library when they are distributing information and resources.
Congressman Riley does not have an office located in Tompkins County although folks from his offices frequently visit the county to hold mobile office hours. Easily contacted by phone or email, his constituent services staff provides advice and services to residents coping with Federal agencies. They can assist with income tax returns delayed for review or help with social security and veteran affairs. Riley’s staff also assists our qualified young people to apply for nominations to the service academies or internship opportunities in the district or in Washington. They are empathetic listeners and excellent intermediaries when we interact with the Federal bureaucracy.
Do not hesitate to contact district offices whenever you need assistance with State or Federal issues. Please spread the news that our representatives are devoted to assisting all their constituents, whatever their party affiliation.
